Abstract

Chronic tonsillitis (CT) is one of the most common otolaryngological diseases of both children and adults. Most cases have been reported among older children, adolescents and young adults. Hemolytic streptococcus serological group A (S. pyogenes), is dominant in the pathogenesis of chronic tonsillitis. The variety of clinical manifestations of streptococcal infection, the difficulties of making a clinical diagnosis dictate the need for widespread use of laboratory diagnostic tools, in particular immunological methods. In most cases, streptococcal pharyngeal infection is a self-limiting infection, however, it can progress and cause abscesses in the tissue of the tonsils, peritonsillar and retropharyngeal tissues, cervical lymphadenitis, sinusitis, otitis media, mastoiditis, and even meningitis.
