Abstract

Neovascularization of the retina and optic nerve in retinopathy is stimulated
by an increase in the level of vasoproliferative growth factor against the background of
hypoxia and retinal ischemia in diabetic retinopathy. To test the concept of a possible
associative relationship of increased expression of vascular endothelial growth factor with
the formation of diabetic microangiopathy and to assess the role of polymorphism rs2010963
of the VEGFA gene in the etiopathogenesis of PDR, we conducted a molecular study in 93
patients with proliferative DR and 96 conditionally healthy donors of Uzbek nationality.
The calculated relative chance of detecting this allele in patients with proliferative DR was:
OR=1.7 at 95%CI1.14- 2.652, the relative risk RR=1.4. 95%CI1.084- 1.853, which
confirms the presence of a predisposing effect of the carrier of the rs2010963*C allele
variant of the VEGFA gene to the formation of PDR in our population.
