IMPACT OF OXIDATIVE STRESS AND HYPERGLYCEMIA IN MATERNAL DIABETES ON CONGENITAL CARDIOVASCULAR MALFORMATIONS: INSIGHTS INTO MECHANISMS AND DEVELOPMENTAL CONSEQUENCES
Abstract
Oxidative stress plays a significant role in congenital cardiovascular
malformations, particularly in the case of maternal diabetes. It has been observed that
5% of infants born to diabetic mother's experience congenital heart disease. Maternal
diabetes during pregnancy is considered an independent risk factor for major embryonic
malformations, with cardiac outflow tract defects being one of the most common
abnormalities observed in studies.
