DEFINITIONS OF POLITENESS

Abstract

This  article  investigates      the      area      of      linguistic politeness    and    the    translatability    of     politeness     formulas     in     English.  Expressions    of    linguistic    politeness    are attempted   for   translation    into    English    and    the    concept    of    politeness as   a   reflection   of    both    normative    and    linguistic    behavior    is    defined and discussed.
